Meet Family Advocate, Barbara Meyer

Hi - I'm Barbara Meyer, the Vision Program's new Advocate. I recently moved from Homer, Alaska, with my six-year-old daughter, Lia, and we're thrilled to be here.

Paonia reminds me a lot of the best parts of Homer (minus the ocean, of course) - it seems to have a close but diverse population, friendly people who are choosing a lifestyle out of the fast-paced mainstream, endless outdoor opportunities, lots and lots of great kids, and an amazing amount going on with the arts, music, and the environment. My family in Ft. Collins has been pressuring us for several years to move back to Colorado - what better place could we choose than Paonia?  To be offered the Advocate position for Vision has only affirmed that Paonia is the right choice for this next chapter in our lives. I hope that the skills and experiences I bring along with me will prove to be assets to an already terrific program. So far the job looks like an interesting combination of matchmaker (RC's with learners and their families), liaison, listener and facilitator, problem-solver, data detective and big-picture-gatherer. Mostly I hope to develop strong relationships within each part of the program, and I welcome everyone's input toward fine-tuning this new position.

Right now my office hours look like they'll be on Tuesdays from 12-4, but I know I'll be around lots more than that. Please stop by and say hello so that I can begin to know all of you - I'll be the one smil
